Privacy Policy

Chapters ("we", "our", or "the app") is a personal reading tracker for iOS, developed by JH Dev. Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Data We Collect

Account information: When you create an account, we collect your email address, username, and display name. If you sign in with Apple, we receive the name and email you choose to share (which may be a private relay address).

Profile information: You may optionally add a bio and profile photo.

Reading activity: Books you add, reading sessions, progress updates, and notes are stored locally on your device. If you use social features, your shared reading activity (books, status updates) is stored on our servers.

Social data: Follow relationships, book club memberships, club discussions, and activity feed posts.

Device tokens: If you enable push notifications, we store a device token to deliver notifications.

Subscriptions and Payments

Chapters offers an optional subscription ("Chapters+") for premium features. All payments are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment information, credit card details, or Apple ID password. Subscription status is verified on-device through Apple's StoreKit framework.

Data We Do Not Collect

• We do not collect contacts or phone numbers
• We do not collect payment or financial information
• We do not track you across other apps or websites
• We do not sell your data to third parties

How We Use Your Data

• To provide and maintain the app's features
• To enable social features like following, activity feeds, and book clubs
• To send push notifications you have opted into
• To look up book information when you search or scan a barcode

Third-Party Services

• Supabase: We use Supabase to store account and social data. Supabase Privacy Policy
• Google Books API: We use Google's API to search for book information. Google Privacy Policy
• Open Library API: We use Open Library to look up books by ISBN.
• Apple Sign In: If you choose to sign in with Apple, authentication is handled by Apple. Apple Privacy Policy

Data Storage

Your reading library, sessions, and notes are stored locally on your device using SwiftData. Social features data (profile, follows, shared books, activities) is stored on Supabase servers.

Data Retention and Deletion

You can delete your account at any time through the app's Settings. When you delete your account, all associated server-side data (profile, follows, activities, shared books, club memberships, device tokens) is permanently removed. Local data on your device remains until you delete the app.

Deleting your account does not cancel an active Chapters+ subscription. To cancel a subscription, go to Settings on your iPhone > Apple ID > Subscriptions.

Children's Privacy

Chapters is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes through the app.
